The pro-Iranian militias reached an agreement with the Iraqi government, according to which “the resistance” will halt military actions against Israel and also refrain from intervening in Syria, until the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, as reported today (Monday) in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar.
“We shall wait to see what Trump’s policy towards Iran will be”
In the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah, it is written that a senior member of the pro-Iranian Nujaba militia in Iraq announced agreements between the militias and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, according to which the armed organizations will cease the military struggle against Israel, which they conduct in support of Gaza, and will not intervene in political changes in Syria.

The report comes amid discussions between both sides, following regional and international demands to disband the militias and hand over their weapons to the state. The understanding reached reflects the compromise achieved to maintain the status of the militias on one hand, and alleviate the pressure exerted on them to avoid escalating the already tense and complex security situation.
The senior official also stated that “the militias decided not to intervene in the Syrian issue, to monitor the situation from afar and wait to know what Trump’s policy towards the Middle East, especially towards Iran, will be.” He added that in Iran, the militias are given the freedom to decide regarding the Syrian arena.
