After Galant’s approval, the IDF yesterday (Tuesday) requested from the Defense Ministry a quota of 3,000 conscription orders for members of the ultra-Orthodox sector. Galant’s approval last week was given in accordance with the IDF’s absorption and sorting capabilities, and only after a significant improvement process of the existing data regarding the recruits is carried out the possible ones.
Following this, the IDF will issue summonses for a first order to about 3,000 ultra-Orthodox as early as this Sunday. The orders were issued after the High Court of Justice ruling, in which it was determined that there is no legal possibility to exempt yeshiva students from conscription, and that it is not possible to transfer state funds to yeshiva students. who did not receive an exemption from conscription.
The orders were issued in accordance with the absorption and sorting capabilities and after a significant refinement process of the existing data regarding the possible recruits will be carried out. Galant also concluded together with the Chief of Staff that during the next month a dedicated awareness campaign for the ultra-Orthodox population will be launched with the aim of making the service routes adapted to the ultra-Orthodox in the IDF accessible in accordance with the recommendations of the “Shakdi Committee.”
