Again: Communication Devices Explode in Lebanon

For the second time in two days, reports from Lebanon indicate the explosion of communication devices—this time, not just beepers.

Following yesterday’s (Tuesday) attack on thousands of Hezbollah’s pagers, new reports are emerging of additional devices exploding. This time, the explosions have caused hundreds of fatalities.

According to reports from Lebanon, the devices that exploded this time were not limited to beepers but also included communication devices, posing a greater threat: “Today in Lebanon, regular phones, laptops, radios, and computers exploded. This is an electronic attack the likes of which history has never seen.” There were also reports of large electrical systems being destroyed, including solar panels, lithium batteries, and fingerprint systems.

Videos circulating on social media show far more significant explosions, involving large amounts of explosives, with entire apartments and cars going up in flames.

Reports and videos suggest that the explosions occurred simultaneously in several locations, with some happening during the funerals of militants killed in yesterday’s incidents. The reports mainly focus on Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut’s Dahiya district, where dozens of casualties were reported. Video footage of one explosion during a funeral has been shared online.

These events come just a day after a broad wave of explosions involving pagers used by Hezbollah operatives. Yesterday’s incidents injured between 3,000 and 4,000 people, hundreds of them critically, and at least 11 militants were killed. It was Hezbollah’s deadliest day since the war began.

Although no Israeli entity has claimed responsibility for the incidents, speculation points to Israel, particularly given statements made by the Defense Minister and the Prime Minister a day earlier about their intentions to change the situation on the northern front.

Experts are presenting various theories about how the explosions were executed, including the possibility that explosives were planted in the devices during the supply chain. There are also suggestions that the operation was carried out after Hezbollah operatives suspected a breach of their communication devices.

As the situation continues to evolve, these incidents underscore the strength of Israeli intelligence and Hezbollah’s vulnerability. The full consequences of this latest round of explosions are still unclear, but tensions in the region remain high.
