Cautious Optimism: Progress in Talks on Hostage Release

In a closed discussion, with a clarification that "it’s better to speak as little as possible" on the matter, the Defense Minister said in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Hamas is showing flexibility and that he "does not foresee any obstacles in the cabinet vote."

In a closed discussion held today (Monday) in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that “Israel is closer than ever to another hostage deal.” Later, in response to questions from Knesset members about the nature of the deal, he reiterated that “it’s better to speak as little as possible” on the matter, and estimated that there would be no obstacle in the government vote. “There will be an overwhelming majority in the cabinet and government for the emerging hostage deal,” he clarified.

Regarding the Philadelphi Corridor and Netzarim Corridor, Katz stated that these are not expected to hinder the deal’s execution, as, according to him, Hamas is beginning to show flexibility. This is because “the terrorist organization understands that we are not planning to end the war.” He added that discussions are ongoing with various parties about the “day after,” emphasizing the condition that Hamas will not rule Gaza and that a governing alternative will be established to prevent its rearmament.

On the Iranian Front: Preventing Nuclear Armament
Regarding Iran, the Defense Minister said that the combination of Hezbollah’s collapse and Trump’s expected support would help Israel prevent Iran from achieving nuclear capability. “We are mobilizing all our forces and capabilities to ensure that Iran does not arm itself with nuclear weapons,” Katz declared. “Trump will also exhibit zero tolerance toward a nuclear Iran. This includes sanctions and everything else. Hezbollah no longer shields Iran. Iran is more exposed today than ever.”
