Dramatic Entrapment on Highway 6: Major Crime Unit Seizes a Kalashnikov and Concealed Magazines

Released for publication: Following a covert investigation conducted over the past few weeks, the Major Crimes Unit of the Central District Police thwarted a weapons trafficking deal involving a Kalashnikov. Today (Thursday), they filed an indictment against three suspects from Lod and the south.

Arrest on Highway 6 and Vehicle Search
The Major Crimes Unit officers monitored the three suspects, and during an operation on Highway 6 near the Kiryat Gat interchange, the undercover officers arrested two of the suspects after a Kalashnikov rifle with ammunition and magazines was found in their vehicle. The third suspect, a 27-year-old from Lod who belongs to the Abu Ghanem family, was also arrested shortly thereafter.

Central District Commander: “Professional Interception for the Public’s Safety”
As a result of a concentrated investigative effort, the unit was able to establish substantial evidence against the three suspects, allowing for the indictment to be filed today for arms trafficking. Brigadier General Yair Hatzeroni, the commander of the Central District, praised the operation and stated: “This is a professional foil of serious criminal events for the sake of public safety, thanks to focused intelligence gathering, operational arrests on the ground, and quality investigation that enabled the establishment of substantial evidence against the three involved and their removal from public society.”
