In recent weeks, the Southern Brigade and the Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion (585) concluded a targeted operation to dismantle terror and underground infrastructure in the southern Gaza Strip area. The operation involved both air and ground forces, resulting in significant disruption to Hamas’s terror capabilities.

The operation began with precise airstrikes guided by the brigade’s fire coordination unit. These strikes targeted anti-tank positions, booby-trapped buildings, and observation posts that posed risks to Israeli forces.

In the course of the operation, the IDF’s Gaza Division engineering unit, in collaboration with the elite Yahalom unit and Shin Bet forces, conducted a complex engineering and technological mission. During this mission, two offensive underground tunnels with a combined length of over two kilometers were exposed and destroyed. Approximately twenty exit shafts were identified within these tunnels, some of which were booby-trapped, and various weapons were also discovered.

During the mission, forces encountered several militants emerging from the underground tunnels. These militants were eliminated by ground forces and airstrikes. Among those neutralized were two who had participated in the October 7 massacre: Bahaa Abu Karshin, commander of the Nukhba force in the Shabora Battalion, and Mohammad Ibrahim Satri, a Hamas operative.
