Yesterday evening (Monday), a moving memorial and commemoration ceremony took place at Zikim Beach, in memory of the heroic civilians who fell in the war on October 7th. The ceremony was attended by senior Israeli police officials, bereaved families, and other dignitaries, serving as an opportunity to honor the memory of the fallen and strengthen the grieving families.

On Saturday, October 7th, known as “Black Saturday,” Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel via the southern coast—Zikim Beach—and embarked on a brutal killing spree. Some beachgoers managed to escape, while others—young men, women, and adults—stood bravely against the terrorists, risking their lives to save others.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of the fallen, followed by the regional rabbi, Chief Inspector Reuven Kamil, reciting the prayer “El Maleh Rachamim.” The blowing of the shofar symbolized hope for a blessed and good year. Mrs. Shoshi Maimoni, representing the bereaved families, delivered a memorial speech, and Mr. Shlomo Kraif, the father of the late Shahaf Kraif, recited the Kaddish prayer. Police officer Sergeant Major Eti Vagas accompanied the event with emotional songs, and the ceremony concluded with the singing of the national anthem, “Hatikvah.”

Deputy Commissioner Effi Shimon, Commander of the Negev District, emphasized the police’s commitment to the bereaved families:
“The Negev District, the Southern Division, will always embrace you as a warm home. I see this ceremony as a great duty, my duty to stand here by your side with all the officers of the Negev District and tell you that we love you, we support you, and you are our strong backbone.”

The memorial ceremony at Zikim Beach was a significant moment of unity and respect in memory of the fallen, while strengthening the bond between the security forces and the bereaved families. The event highlighted the importance of commemoration and the ongoing support for families who have tragically lost their loved ones.
