The IDF spokesperson released drone footage showing Yahya Sinwar in the moments leading up to his elimination.
He is hiding behind a mask. He was injured, and seems to have lost a hand. Israel has determined that he was in the tunnel when the 6 hostages were brutally murdered by Hamas on September 1st. It’s not clear if he had let his guard down since or if he was running away. He was not surrounded at this point by hostages. He was found with a false ID of a UNRWA worker, 40,000 shekels cash, and a weapon.
Sinwar sees the IDF drone approach him and he tries to throw something at it. The two other terrorists with him were already killed. And that is it. The army eliminated him in a routine operation against Hamas terrorists, without at first even realizing it was Sinwar. Sinwar – the mastermind of October 7th, who spent many years in an Israeli prison as well as being healed from cancer in an Israeli hospital and was released in the Gilad Shalit deal in 2011 – is dead.
