The need for protected ambulances became more acute in light of the tragic events of October 7, when the rescue and rescue forces had difficulty reaching the battle zones in the first hours due to the lack of appropriate protection, which caused the loss of human life.

The new ambulances, donated by the Israel Friends organization and the Let’s Do Something project, are expected to enter operational use in the coming days, and will serve the special units of the police, as well as the police’s medical facilities. Until now, only the Navy had armored ambulances.

This step constitutes a significant improvement in the response and handling of the police forces in emergency incidents, and emphasizes the lessons learned from the difficult past incidents.

Police Commissioner, Senior Superintendent Yaakov Shabtai, emphasized the importance of the new vehicles: “The investigation into the events of the seventh in October revealed that many police officers were evacuated in unprotected private vehicles, exposing them to the risk of gunfire. The protected ambulances are a vital need, especially for the special units operating in dangerous scenes.”
