Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz visited today (Tuesday) the IDF outposts at the summit of Mount Hermon along with the IDF Chief of Staff, the head of the Shin Bet, and the Northern Command General. This is the first visit since these positions were taken and brought under full IDF control.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office noted: “The Prime Minister conducted a situational assessment today at the Hermon Ridge with the Defense Minister, the Chief of Staff, the Commander of the Northern Command, and the Head of the Shin Bet. The Prime Minister reviewed the IDF’s preparations in the area and set guidelines for the future.”
During the assessment, the Defense Minister emphasized the need to quickly establish a strong presence in the area, following his directives. This includes the construction of fortifications, defensive systems, and improving soldiers’ living conditions to ensure readiness for a potential extended presence.

“Our Presence Here at the Hermon Summit Strengthens Security”
The Defense Minister stated that the IDF will remain in place for as long as necessary.
“Our presence here at the summit of the Hermon strengthens security and adds an element of observation and deterrence against Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, as well as against the rebels in Damascus who claim to present a moderate face but belong to the most extreme Islamic factions.”
The Defense Minister further emphasized:
“Even in an era of long-range weapons, there is significant value in altitude and holding the vantage point. We will not allow a return to a situation of threats like those of October 7th on the borders of the State of Israel.”
