Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced today (Sunday) the opening of a new Israeli embassy in Moldova while ordering the closure of Israel’s embassy in Ireland. Sa’ar’s office stated that relations between Israel and Moldova are friendly, and both nations are keen on expanding and deepening their ties. Moldova already has an embassy in Israel, and it is now time for Israel to establish one in Moldova.
Sa’ar informed Moldova’s Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi of the decision to open the Israeli embassy in Chișinău, a move expected to be completed by 2025. He instructed the Director General of his ministry to locate a suitable building for the embassy and initiate the process of appointing an Israeli ambassador to Moldova.
Additionally, Sa’ar’s office explained that the decision to close Israel’s embassy in Dublin stems from the extreme anti-Israel policies of the Irish government. Notably, Israel’s ambassador to Ireland was recalled in the past following Ireland’s unilateral recognition of a “Palestinian state.” Last week, Ireland announced its support for South Africa’s legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Israel of “genocide.”

“Some Nations Seek Stronger Ties with Israel”
Minister Sa’ar stated today: “The actions and antisemitic rhetoric employed by Ireland against Israel are based on the delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state and double standards. Ireland has crossed all red lines in its treatment of Israel. Israel will focus its resources on advancing bilateral relations with nations worldwide according to priorities that also reflect those nations’ attitudes toward Israel.”
He added: “There are nations eager to strengthen their ties with Israel, yet they do not have an Israeli embassy. We will realign Israel’s diplomatic representation to reflect the approach and actions of various countries toward Israel in the international arena.”
