Last week, as part of the IDF’s ongoing effort to thwart terror activity in the Gaza Strip and neutralize threats against security forces and civilians, Givati Brigade forces under the command of Division 162 engaged in a close-quarters battle in the heart of Jabalia. The battle led to the elimination of Saad Said Zakhi Dahnoun, a company commander and deputy head of the rocket array in the northern Gaza Strip for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Dahnoun was involved in the October 7th massacre, and participated in both planning and leading ambushes against IDF forces in the Beit Lahiya area.

The Terrorists Took Cover Under Blankets
During the documented operation, two terrorists were identified advancing towards the forces under the cover of darkness and rain while hiding beneath blankets. One of the terrorists was Dahnoun himself. In a swift response, the brigade’s forces closed in and eliminated Dahnoun. The second terrorist accompanying Dahnoun surrendered to the ground forces, and during his arrest an improvised explosive device was found in his possession. He was transferred to Israel for further investigation, where details regarding his activities and further plans of the organization are expected to emerge.

These precision strikes were made possible thanks to intelligence cooperation from Military Intelligence, the Shin Bet, and Southern Command. Additionally, in Deir al-Balah, a terrorist from the PIJ involved in carrying out plans from the humanitarian space was targeted as well.
The IDF noted that numerous measures were taken to minimize harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and precise intelligence gathering, and clarified that operations against terror organizations will continue with unyielding strength and determination.
