On a late-night El Al flight from Wednesday to Thursday en route to Miami, passengers and crew noticed a passenger experiencing a severe health crisis. Professor Yoram Weiss, the CEO of Hadassah Medical Center, who was aboard the flight heading to a fundraising mission in the U.S., immediately stepped in to provide emergency medical care.
Emergency Landing in Athens
Professor Weiss quickly determined that the passenger was suffering from a heart attack. He administered oxygen and emergency medication and advised the flight crew to make an emergency landing in Athens to transfer the passenger to a local hospital for further treatment and monitoring. Fellow passengers applauded and cheered for the professor, who had saved the passenger’s life.

Saving Lives Anywhere
“I did what any doctor would do in such a moment,” Weiss said afterward. “We are doctors at all times, day or night, inside or outside the hospital. The instinct to save lives is deeply ingrained in us—even between heaven and earth.”
Following the emergency landing in Athens, the flight continued as scheduled to Miami.
