Amid the ongoing war on various fronts, the November-December 2024 cycle for combat roles presented particularly impressive data, according to IDF figures published yesterday morning (Monday). Both among men and women, high recruitment rates were recorded compared to the original plan, indicating a strong willingness to join combat roles in the IDF.
A 28% Increase in Women’s Recruitment, Border Infantry Recovers After October 7
Among women, there was a 28% increase compared to the corresponding cycle last year. Units such as Combat Intelligence stood out in particular, with the number of female recruits reaching 186% of the target. Other units also presented very high figures: the Artillery Corps reached 183%, Rescue and Evacuation 157%, Air Defense 144%, and the Border Infantry, which suffered a severe blow on October 7, recorded an inspiring jump of 134% in recruitment data.

The increase in recruitment is due, among other things, to new tracks such as a gender-based unit in Combat Intelligence and the Mobile Infantry Women’s Program, offering women more tailored and diverse service options.
Golani Leads, the Ultra-Orthodox Join
Among men, the combat units recorded high recruitment rates. The Golani and Nahal infantry brigades reached 109% of their target. The Givati and Kfir brigades, Armored Corps, Engineering Corps, and Artillery Corps also approached 108%-109%. Another notable figure was in the Border Infantry Brigade, which saw a significant increase with 120% of the original recruitment target.
Additionally, the first recruitment for a new Engineering Battalion led to a significant increase in manpower. Another innovation in this cycle is the first recruitment for the “Hashmonaim” Brigade, intended to integrate the ultra-Orthodox sector into military service. The army says that “the move joins a broader trend of diversifying combat roles and addressing evolving security needs.” Recruitment for combat roles is expected to continue in the coming weeks, alongside additional recruitment for combat-support roles essential to operational success in the field. The data indicates a positive recruitment trend, with motivation among recruits – both women and men – contributing to the strengthening of combat units and the IDF’s ability to meet upcoming security challenges.
