Under the directive of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the IDF has decided to extend the military operation in the Jenin refugee camp, which was originally scheduled to end yesterday. The decision was made in response to ongoing intelligence about the presence of terror infrastructure in the area, signifying a significant shift in the counterterrorism policy in the region.

Since the operation began, the IDF has reported the killing of approximately 30 militants and the arrest of around 30 other Palestinians suspected of terrorist activities. However, the fighting has also taken a toll on IDF forces, with the death of a soldier from the 906th Battalion and five others wounded, ranging from light to moderate injuries.

In response to the developing situation, the IDF has reinforced the area with additional troops, including Border Police units, engineering equipment, special forces in reserve, and forces from the Infantry School. This move underscores the IDF’s determination to intensify its operations in the region.

Military sources emphasize that the operation in the heart of the Jenin refugee camp includes extensive actions, such as the demolition of buildings and roads under which powerful explosives were planted. According to them, explosives weighing over 100 kilograms have been uncovered, highlighting the severity of the threat. The operation is intended to send a clear message that the IDF is “taking off the gloves” in its fight against terrorism.

The IDF’s decision to extend the operation and increase its intensity signals a major shift in Israel’s security policy in the West Bank. While the IDF stresses that these actions are meant to protect Israeli civilians and thwart terrorist activities, the tense situation in the region is causing concern among both international and local actors.
