As part of ongoing counter terrorism efforts in the Gaza Strip, the IDF conducted a series of skilled targeted strikes against senior Hamas figures over the past week. According to an update today (Thursday), the IDF reported that among those killed were the infamous commander of the “Sabra” Battalion, Osama Abu Namous, along with his deputy, Muhammad al-Tarak, and additional terrorist operatives. Carried out by Israeli Air Force aircraft, the strikes were a result of precise intelligence provided by Military Intelligence (AMAN), Shin Bet, and the Southern Command. The operation targeted militants involved in the planning and execution of terrorism in the Netzarim corridor, in attempts to harm IDF forces and Israeli civilians.
Osama Abu Namous: A Key Source of Terrorist Intel
The eliminated terrorist, Osama Abu Namous, served as a key source of operational intel for Hamas. As commander of the “Sabra” Battalion within Hamas’ Gaza City Brigade, he directed terrorist operations in the Netzarim corridor. His deputy, Muhammad al-Tarak, was a previous commander of the battalion’s elite Nukhba company, playing a major role in the planning, execution and guidance of attacks against IDF forces.
Elimination of Additional “Sabra” Battalion Commanders
Among other terrorists killed were commanders in the battalion’s elite Nukhba militants, Hamza Diri and Mahmoud Shahin. Diri was responsible for transferring weapons to Hamas operatives, and advanced plans targeting IDF forces together with Shahin. Following the operation, the IDF and Shin Bet emphasized their determination to continue acting decisively and forcefully against any terror threat posed by Hamas.
