In a new arena: The Roeh Yoreh system is expected to be operational at key locations in Judea and Samaria, according to a report by Doron Kadosh. The systems, which include observation towers equipped with remotely controlled firing capabilities, enable lookout operators to open fire on terrorists approaching the fence, according to Kadosh from Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio).

These systems, referred to as “the eyes of the nation,” have been used by the IDF for many years but were previously deployed exclusively along the Gaza border since 2008. However, on October 7, most of these systems were disabled at the start of the Hamas attack via assault drones, rendering them largely ineffective in preventing the infiltration of terrorists into the Gaza envelope. Only a few systems remained operational at the beginning of the assault, but these managed to neutralize dozens of terrorists.

The IDF reports the initiation of procurement and equipping processes for Roeh Yoreh systems produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, with plans to install dozens of these at strategic points, control posts, and entrances to communities. The goal is to prevent and thwart infiltration and terrorist raids targeting Israeli communities.

The systems already ordered are under production, with the first phase focusing on deployment in the most threatened locations. Over time, the IDF plans to expand coverage. Unit 636, the Judea and Samaria reconnaissance unit, will train lookout operators to use the systems and conduct remote firing when necessary.
