Amid the escalation in attacks by the Houthis, this morning (Tuesday), Gideon Sa’ar instructed Israel’s representations in Europe and Britain to act to promote the declaration of Ansar Allah, the Houthis as a terror organization in these countries. This is an unprecedented move in the diplomatic arena, aimed at countering the growing threats from the Iranian terror branch.
For the first time, the Foreign Minister directed Israel’s representations in the European Union and Britain to work towards declaring the Houthis as a terror organization. Foreign Minister Sa’ar noted: “The Houthis pose a threat not only to Israel but to the region and the entire world.” The directive follows repeated attacks by the Houthis on Israel, including ballistic missile launches, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The US Has Already Decided: Houthis are a Terror Organization
Currently, the Houthis are defined as a terror organization in countries like the US, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and Israel. Now, Israel seeks to extend the recognition to European countries as well.
The Houthis also pose a threat to global maritime freedom. Since October 7, the Houthis have attacked over 100 vessels in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, some under European flags. The organization operates in close cooperation with Iran, providing it with funding, weapons, and military training, as previously reported in official Security Council reports.
