For the first time, Israel’s population has exceeded the 10-million threshold. Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reveals that the country’s population at the end of 2024 is 10.072 million. Of this number, 7.707 million are Jews and others (76.9%), 2.104 million are Arabs (21.0%), and 0.216 million are classified as foreigners (2.1%).
Population Growth Decline
Over the past year, the population growth rate significantly declined, totaling only 112,000 people—an increase of 1.1%, compared to 1.6% in 2016. Natural growth, measured by births and deaths, accounted for 129,600, but a negative migration balance reduced the population by 18,200 due to more emigrants leaving than immigrants arriving.
In 2024, approximately 51,400 residents passed away, a slight increase compared to 49,600 deaths in the previous year. These figures include soldiers and civilians killed during the war that began on October 7, 2023. The mortality rate remained unchanged at 5.2 deaths per 1,000 residents.
Approximately 33,000 New Immigrants
The international migration balance at the end of 2024 was negative, at -18,200. This is primarily due to Israelis emigrating abroad, with 82,700 residents leaving Israel and only 23,800 returning. As a result, the net emigration balance for Israelis at the end of 2024 stands at 58,900.
Additionally, the number of immigrants to Israel in 2024 was 32,800, a decrease of 15,000 compared to the previous year. The number of individuals arriving for family reunification was 7,900, nearly identical to 2023.
