The event, which included the lighting of the sixth Hanukkah candle, featured activities aimed at strengthening participants’ sense of belonging and self-respect.
Homeless individuals often suffer from isolation and social exclusion. The Hanukkah celebration provides an opportunity for them to feel part of the community and connect to the traditional values of the holiday—light, hope, and unity. Additionally, the gathering allows them to form connections with one another and strengthen their relationships with social workers who support them regularly.

The celebration was organized by the “Center for the Homeless,” which provides comprehensive support and assistance to approximately 270 homeless individuals in the capital city. As part of the event, the municipality announced the renewal of the locker project, which offers a secure storage solution for personal belongings.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion emphasized the municipality’s commitment to supporting the homeless and ensuring they feel an integral part of the city: “Hanukkah symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness. It is our duty to bring light into the lives of those who have little and are desperate for support and a lifeline. Our goal is to provide hope for a better life. Especially in these challenging times, we leave no one behind. We create social activities, surround them with warmth and love, so that everyone feels part of society and the Jerusalem community.”
