Rambam Hospital in Haifa showcases its impressive preparedness for emergency situations, emphasizing maximum protection for patients and medical staff, alongside maintaining a high standard of care. Amid the escalating security situation in the north, the hospital has shifted to full emergency mode, demonstrating its ability to continue functioning under threat.
At the heart of the preparedness is the hospital’s fortified parking lot, which essentially serves as an advanced underground hospital. Starting today (Sunday) at 12:00 PM, hospital teams began a complex logistical operation to transfer hundreds of patients from regular wards to the protected area. This carefully planned process, expected to take several hours, ensures each department is relocated to a designated area within the fortified parking lot.
Continuity of Care
Despite the complicated transition, the hospital emphasizes its commitment to providing the highest level of medical care. Medical teams have undergone special training for working under emergency conditions, and all essential medical equipment has been moved to the protected areas to ensure uninterrupted treatment even in challenging circumstances.
As part of the preparation, the hospital is “streamlining” patients—discharging those whose condition allows them to go home. At the same time, elective procedures (non-urgent scheduled treatments) will be halted, except for rare cases that will be approved by a special committee. These steps are intended to free up resources and space for emergency cases and potential casualties.
