New Hostage Framework and Continued Pressure

The head of Mossad, Dedi Barnea, traveled today (Friday) to Doha, Qatar's capital, to meet with Qatar's Prime Minister and the head of the CIA. Barnea is expected to present a new framework for a potential hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, which could also lead to a prolonged ceasefire and offer Hezbollah a reason to pursue an end to the northern conflict.

This new framework considers significant changes that have occurred since the last discussions between Israel and mediators, about two weeks ago — including the death of Yahya Sinwar, the discovery of the bodies of six hostages, and Israeli successes against Hezbollah. It remains to be seen how these changes have influenced Hamas’s stance.

Meanwhile, combat on various fronts continues at full strength. Yesterday, during the Simchat Torah holiday (marking exactly one year since the outbreak of the war), no fewer than six IDF divisions reported successful engagements and militant eliminations: Division 146 on the western Lebanese border, Divisions 98 and 91 on the eastern border, as well as Division 162 in Jabaliya, Division 252 on the Netzarim axis, and Division 143 in Rafah. According to the IDF Spokesperson, a targeted strike yesterday eliminated the commander of Hezbollah’s Itaron sector, equivalent in rank to a battalion commander. Additionally, the names of five soldiers from Brigade 2 (operating under Division 146) who were killed in a recent encounter with Hezbollah were released: Mordechai Amoyal, Shlomo Neiman, Shmuel Harari, Shmuel Ben-Natan, and Guy Ben-Harush. So far, about 30 soldiers have fallen in the Northern Arrows operation.

Yesterday at 6:29 AM, Artillery Corps Battalion 9260, part of Division 143, conducted a precise strike on multiple targets in Gaza, commemorating the exact time of the Hamas attack that initiated the war one year ago. The battalion is stationed a few hundred meters from the Re’im Forest parking area, where last year’s Nova festival took place. Before initiating fire, the battalion commander addressed his soldiers: “We stand here a year later, together with the entire Israel Defense Forces, with the sole mission of defeating the enemy and achieving victory… Am Yisrael Chai! You won’t defeat me! On target… Fire!”
