Relocation of Kibbutz Kfar Aza to Ruhama: KKL Hands Over Keys to Evacuated Families

Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL) has completed the construction of a new neighborhood in a record time of four months, and the residents of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, who were affected by the October 7 attacks, are beginning to move into their new homes. Five of the 120 houses built are reserved for the kidnapped kibbutz members who are still held captive by Hamas, in hope of their safe return.

As part of the rehabilitation of the Gaza border region, KKL signed an agreement with the Tekuma Administration, allocating approximately 300 million shekels for various projects in the area. The agreement includes the establishment of a new neighborhood in Kibbutz Ruhama, road and security route restoration, agricultural training, and more.

KKL completed the construction of the Ruhama neighborhood in just four months, instead of the originally planned ten, at a cost of around 55 million shekels. The residents of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, who suffered a devastating blow on October 7, will relocate to this new neighborhood and begin rebuilding their community.

As part of the project, KKL, together with the Settlement Division, built 120 prefabricated housing units and invested in essential infrastructure such as access roads, sewage, and electricity to enable residents to live comfortably. Additionally, five homes have been designated for the kidnapped kibbutz members—Gili, Ziv, Emily, Doron, and Keith—who were abducted and remain held by Hamas.

KKL Chairwoman Yifat Ovadia Luski stated: “Rehabilitation and strengthening of settlement in the western Negev are top Zionist priorities. Just as we have done throughout history, KKL is now fully committed to this Zionist settlement project, providing certainty for the residents of Kibbutz Kfar Aza and strengthening the western Negev. Time and again, KKL proves to be Israel’s number one executing body. We began work last June, worked tirelessly, and soon the first residents will move into the new neighborhood. KKL is proud of this project, which provides stability to Kfar Aza’s residents and allows them to rebuild their community after the tragic events of October 7.”

Gon Sosna, a resident of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, expressed: “This is a very emotional moment. Finally, we can stop being displaced and move into a home of our own, where we can start to heal and recover. Of course, we still hope to return to Kfar Aza with our kidnapped loved ones. But for now, thanks to KKL, who expedited the key handover, we will have our own temporary home. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped.”
