Major Hod Schreibman, 27 years old from Tzofit, a company commander in the Multidimensional Unit (Unit 888), was killed today (Thursday) in a battle in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, during a clash with terrorists. Schreibman was married three months ago, and his death brings the number of IDF fallen since the beginning of the war to 823.
The Helmet That Became a Menorah
The Tactical Command College reported that Major Hod Schreibman, a graduate of Class 22, discovered an old helmet about a year and a half ago during an exercise with his company near Be’er Milka in the Negev. The helmet, buried in the sand, was from a fighter in the War of Independence. Schreibman believed it had been left there during Operation “Horev” (Hanukkah 1948) and decided to refurbish it and turn it into a menorah. “Our beloved Hod fell on Hanukkah. We will remember him forever,” the statement said.

A Daring Operation
During the clash in which Major Schreibman from the Multidimensional Unit was killed, another soldier from the same unit was seriously wounded. Additionally, in a separate incident in northern Gaza, a tank commander from the 9th Battalion of the Iron Trails Brigade (401) was critically injured, apparently by sniper fire.
As reported earlier today, Captain (Res.) Amit Levy, 35 years old from Shomria, a team commander in the 6551 Reconnaissance Battalion of the Flame Division (551), was killed in battle in the central Gaza Strip. Levy leaves behind a wife and four children.
The Multidimensional Unit in the IDF
Unit 888, also known as the “Ghost Unit,” is an elite IDF commando unit operating within the Armored Corps of the Ground Forces. The unit was established in 2019 at the initiative of then-IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, as part of the multi-year “Momentum” plan. The creation of the unit was intended to prepare for future battlefields and serves as a model for innovation and structural changes in military units.
