Soldier Meets the Paramedic Couple Who Saved His Life

With a smile and much emotion, Doron Kuta, a reservist soldier injured during a battle in northern Israel, met face to face with the couple who saved his life.

“Even Under Live Fire”

During the northern war, which brought a difficult and unexpected reality to the residents of the area, Dor and Hadar volunteered not only as MDA paramedics but also as frontline medical team members. The couple, residents of the Ya’ara moshav in the north, chose to remain despite frequent attacks, to provide medical assistance under fire, while juggling treatment for the injured with managing their family farm.

Ya’ara was one of the moshavim targeted during the war, forcing the couple to face numerous challenges throughout that time, often risking their lives. “Our moshav is a kilometer and a half from the northern border, and I treat rural issues between calls,” Dor shared. “An armored ambulance is stationed at home, and we continue to man it and are prepared to respond to every call; we’ve treated both soldiers and civilians, even under live fire.”

A Heartwarming Reunion

The touching story began on October 9, 2023, two days after fighting broke out, when the couple was called to treat three soldiers from Battalion 300, including Doron Kuta, a reservist in Battalion 300. Hadar and Dor treated him and evacuated him to the hospital, and since then they had not known what happened to him.

When the ceasefire in the north began, Doron, who is still in the recovery process, returned to the site where he was injured to thank the couple who saved his life. “You saved me in the end. I am so happy to see you,” Doron said emotionally. “We provided medical treatment to many injured, some of whom were critically wounded and unfortunately passed away from their injuries at the hospital. I’m so happy to see you’re okay; it gives so much hope and light,” Hadar shared. Dor added, “After everything we saw, everyone we treated, all the bombings, and the sleepless nights, seeing you standing on your feet gave me strength; you can’t imagine how much.”
