Early this morning (Monday), an El Al flight from France landed at Ben Gurion Airport with the coffins of the five victims from the tragic car accident in Morocco last Friday. At this time, ZAKA search and rescue teams and ambulances are accompanying the deceased for treatment and burial at the cemeteries in Meron and Safed.

Senir Almaliach, a representative of ZAKA’s legal and international department, who oversaw the complex operation to bring the deceased back for burial in Israel, reported that upon receiving the report at ZAKA’s international center on Friday morning, ZAKA representatives joined their counterparts in the Moroccan authorities to assist in handling and releasing the bodies of the deceased for their return to Israel ‘as quickly as possible and against all odds.’

The bodies of the deceased from Morocco were flown to Israel via Paris, according to Almaliach: “Thanks to Israel’s ambassador in Morocco, Mr. Yossi Ben David, and the consulate, Mrs. Dorit Avīdani, along with the leaders of the Jewish community and Chevra Kadisha in Casablanca, and with the assistance of Rabbi Yeshiahou Yosef Pinto, head of the ‘Shuva Israel’ institutions. I would like to thank all the partners in this act of true kindness who supported the success of the complex operation with all their might, especially the community leaders and Chevra Kadisha of Morocco – Casablanca, Rabbi Aryeh Deri, Chairman of the Shas party, Secretary General Rabbi Uri Maklev, Transportation Minister Miri Regev, the Ministry’s Director General Moshe Ben Zaken, Knesset member Eli Ravivo, Yossi Kakon, the mayor of Safed, together with his deputies and city leaders, El Al management, Maman company management, Baruch Golan, and ZAKA volunteers from the Northern District.”
