Against the backdrop of reports of Yahya Sinwar’s death, the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, comedian Eli Finish decided to end his impersonation of the character on the satirical show “Eretz Nehederet.” Finish, who turned Sinwar’s character into a well-known comedic icon in Israel, parted with it in a humorous yet emotionally charged manner.

In a video posted on “Eretz Nehederet’s” Instagram account, Sinwar’s character, portrayed by Finish, is seen eating Bumba while wearing rat ears, a prop that became symbolic of the impersonation. The caption “The Last Supper” accompanies the clip, with the song “Samba Party” playing in the background.

Finish responded on his personal account: “Blessed is He who has freed me from this character,” a phrase that reflects the mixed emotions surrounding his farewell to the role. It is worth noting that Finish also impersonated another senior Hamas figure, Mohammed Deif, who was killed by Israel in July.

Throughout the latest season of “Eretz Nehederet,” which was called “A Fighting Land” due to the ongoing war, Finish continued to portray Sinwar in sketches that gained significant attention. In one particularly moving sketch, Finish shared that he struggled to hold back tears during filming, especially when the sound of a crying baby was incorporated.

Israeli assessments regarding Sinwar’s death, who orchestrated the October 7 attack, stem from an Israeli Defense Forces tank attack on a building in Gaza which was identified as having terrorists inside. Sinwar, who was previously imprisoned in Israel, was a key figure in Hamas and in planning the attack on Israel.
