Tragedy in Rafah: IDF helicopter crashes, two soldiers killed

A heavy disaster struck the IDF last night when an Air Force “Yanshuf” helicopter crashed in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip. The helicopter, which was on a mission to evacuate a wounded soldier to a hospital, crashed during landing. As a result of the tragic event, two IDF soldiers were killed, and seven others were injured.

The event occurred during the night, when a “Yanshuf” helicopter was performing a medical evacuation mission for a wounded soldier. Initial investigations suggest that the crash happened during the landing in the Rafah area. The IDF emphasized that, according to initial findings, the crash was not caused by enemy fire.

Two IDF soldiers were killed in the incident. Additionally, seven other soldiers were injured to varying degrees and were taken to receive medical treatment at a hospital. Their families have been updated on their condition.

Air Force Commander, Major General Tomer Bar, has appointed a military investigation committee to examine the circumstances of the incident. The committee will review all aspects related to the crash, including the condition of the helicopter, weather conditions, and operational protocols in place at the time of the mission.

Despite the severity of the incident, the IDF emphasizes that there has been no change in the operational activity of the Air Force. Missions continue as scheduled, with a focus on safety and initial lessons from the event.
