Why is the IDF operating in Beirut? Here’s what you need to know

While the US requested that Israel not take any action in Beirut, Israel has determined that operating there is essential to protecting Israel's civilians; the IDF must destroy the Hezbollah terror infrastructure in Dahieh, a suburb of the city. Actions continue taking care to minimize Lebanese civilian injuries.

Hezbollah leadership, command centers, bunkers, weapons and financial centers are all in Dahieh. Over 23,000 rockets, hostile drones and anti-tank missiles have been fired at Israel since the October 7th massacre by Hamas and Hezbollah. There is still a threat of Hezbollah terrorists infiltrating Israel and attacking civilians. To eliminate these threats, the IDF must take action in Hezbollah’s capital. Israel warns residents to leave the area before any strike takes place because Israel is at war with Hezbollah, not the country of Lebanon.

Unfortunately, like Hamas, Hezbollah uses the population as human shields by placing terror infrastructure beneath civilian buildings.
