On Tuesday night, a swearing-in ceremony was held at the Western Wall Plaza in Jerusalem for Border Police officers completing their training at the Border Police School. The event was attended by Border Police Commander Commissioner Brik Yitzhak, School Commander Deputy Commissioner Jihad Hassan, senior command staff, training staff, Border Police trainees, as well as family and friends.
The trainees have completed around three months of a four-month training course, covering combat skills, marksmanship, counterterrorism, riot control, combat fitness, and more. During the ceremony, they swore allegiance to the State of Israel, received the Border Police’s green beret, and were granted the official rank of police officer.
In his speech at the ceremony, Border Police Commander Commissioner Brik Yitzhak said:
“This moment is a significant one that will undoubtedly be etched in your memory as a pivotal moment—the beginning of a path where you listened to the voices of your heart, and they aligned with supreme values, including defending the homeland and ensuring the safety of its citizens. By taking this oath, you join the esteemed Border Police family, whose contribution to Israel’s security is immeasurable. I always say that the Border Police is the protective wall of the people of Israel.”

Border Police is Israel’s longest and most extensive operational arm, drawing its strength from the spirit and dedication of its service members. With unique and diverse capabilities, it constantly enhances its skills and operates on all fronts, engaging in determined and relentless counterterrorism, handling riots, and combating serious crime both in urban areas and rural landscapes.
In his address, School Commander Deputy Commissioner Jihad Hassan remarked:
“Today marks exactly 68 years since the outbreak of the Sinai War, also known as Operation Kadesh. It was a brief military campaign but with heavy losses for the people of Israel. Years later, we find ourselves in the midst of a painful and unyielding conflict across multiple significant and extensive fronts, exacting a heavy toll every day.
Among the trainees standing here on the Western Wall Plaza, pledging their allegiance to serve the State of Israel during this challenging time, are also trainees and commanders personally affected by the war.
The Liar family, who lost their beloved son Natan Hai in the battle at Kerem Shalom on October 7, and the Angrest family, whose son Matan was kidnapped to Gaza during the battle at Nahal Oz, stand here as well, and we all hope for his swift return home. To the Liar and Angrest families—I know that each morning is a mission and a challenge for you. I hope that today’s moving event provides you with a moment of solace, and I wish for days of goodness and new growth for you and for all of us.”
