“Four names, four life stories, and four families. Over the past weekend, four reserve soldiers fell in the Gaza Strip: Yaniv, Danil, Nitai, and Evyatar. Each of them was a world unto themselves – a dedicated educator, a new immigrant full of hope, a young artist, and a beloved eldest son. Behind the uniforms and ranks were people who dreamed, loved, and were loved. Entire communities mourn their sons, and families grapple with a loss that is difficult to describe in words.
Master Sergeant (Res.) Yaniv Yitzhak Oren, of blessed memory:
Yaniv, a resident of Kibbutz Ein Gedi, was an educator at heart. For nearly a decade, he guided and supported youth at the Ein Gedi boarding school. His friends from the kibbutz remember him as ‘a beloved and dear person who was part of the kibbutz landscape and community social activities.’ Yaniv leaves behind a family, a partner, and an entire community that is shocked and grieving.”
Staff Sergeant (Res.) Danil Pechniok, of blessed memory:
Danil’s story is one of Zionism and dedication. He immigrated to Israel from Uzbekistan and lived alone in Bat Yam, while his family remained behind. He served as a lone soldier and continued to give his all in reserve duty to protect the homeland. The Mayor of Bat Yam, Tzvika Brot, saluted Danil’s bravery and said, “We all salute his heroism and send a big embrace to his family and friends.”

Staff Sergeant (Res.) Nitai Mitudi, of blessed memory:
Nitai, a graduate of the School of Arts in Ashkelon, left behind parents, a sister, and a brother. The Mayor of Ashkelon, Tomer Glam, eulogized him, saying: “Heartfelt condolences to his parents and dear family. The Ashkelon Municipality will be at their disposal for anything they need during this difficult and painful time. May you know no more sorrow, and may you be comforted from above.”
Staff Sergeant (Res.) Evyatar Attuar, of blessed memory:
Evyatar was the eldest son of Eli Attuar, a history teacher at Aviv High School and the professional manager of the Hapoel Raanana youth football team. Evyatar’s father eulogized him with deep sorrow: “From the seventh of October, it was clear to us that this is on Evyatar’s generation. Now it’s their turn to bear the burden. Evyatar, our beloved child, is unfortunately part of the price. My firstborn son, the love of my heart. I am in pain and proud of you forever.”
The four soldiers fell in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip. Three of them—Evyatar, Danil, and Nitai—were killed by a remotely detonated explosive device in the Zaitoun neighborhood. Yaniv was killed by RPG fire during an encounter with a terrorist cell in the southern part of Gaza City.
